The New Forest Centre houses a museum of the New Forest, a temporary exhibition gallery, a reference library, shop and VIC. We run an education service that caters to local schools and a lifelong learning programme of exhibitions and events.

The Museum and Library are wholly owned by the New Forest Ninth Centenary Trust, a registered independent charity.

Opening hours

The New Forest Museum, the New Forest Gallery, the Visitor Information Centre and the Museum Gift Shop are open 10am - 5pm (last admissions to the Museum at 4pm), 7 days a week. Please allow around 1 hour for your visit.

The Christopher Tower New Forest Reference Library is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am until 4.30pm. Please call in or ring in advance of your visit to ensure that the librarian is available.

We are closed from 12noon on Christmas Eve and all day Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

All About Owls!

On Friday 18 May, the New Forest Centre will be joining forces with Museums at Night to bring you an evening all about owls. Step into the twilgiht world of some of our favourite feathered creatures and learn about their habits and habitats. Get close up to our special visitors from the Libertys Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre and have fun with crafts and quizzes. Bring your parents, grandparents, siblings and friends along too. It's a great evening for everyone.
