The Roald Dahl Museum is a great little family Museum, situated in Great Missenden, the Buckinghamshire village where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for 36 years.

The Museum, aimed at 6 to 12 year olds, features three hands-on galleries and is home to the Roald Dahl archive. Boy gallery looks at Roald Dahl's school days while Solo gallery houses his original Writing Hut. The Story Centre puts your imagination centre-stage with fantabulous Roald Dahl workshops and events to inspire the writer in you.

A clay sculpture made by a child

Perfect for little ones who like getting creative! Get your hands messy with clay and sculpt a bird - and the best bit is you don't have to clean up!

You'll use the birds in Roald Dahl's books as inspiration for your masterpiece - think the Roly-Poly Bird from The Twits, or the Swan in Billy and the Minpins. Then stick on sequins, feathers and other beautiful bits to make your design shine.

We use air drying clay so you can take your creation home with you, and we'll provide something to wear so you can keep your clothes clean - phew!

One for firing up your imagination. You'll be using junk to create imaginary objects that fly!

All sorts of objects are made to fly in Roald Dahl’s stories. Who can forget the glass elevator or the giant peach!? But what would you like to go soaring up high? Inspired by Roald Dahl's stories you'll model your creation out of junk, imagining what's taking flight and how it's getting there.

Chilterns countryside field with gate

Guided Countryside Trails

Walk in the steps of Roald Dahl, explore in the woods that inspired Fantastic Mr Fox and Danny the Champion of the World and take in views of the stunning local Chilterns countryside.

Head out for a family-friendly walk with a Museum guide. Zip through the High Street then head to the countryside on the Museum's doorstep. Your guide will tell you about the books inspired by the local scenery and you'll get a unique insight into Roald Dahl's life in the village. You'll also be able to listen to some extracts of Dahl's books in the places that inspired them too. Pretty magical!

We'll set off on uneven, and sometimes muddy, paths so bring your best boots and a sense of adventure!
