The Garden Hall at Newark Park, Gloucestershire

This unusual and atmospheric property was built c.1550 as a hunting lodge and added to in the 1790s. It stands high on the edge of a 40-ft cliff with outstanding views.

Visit Newark and learn about our WWI connections from a soldier killed by the Red Baron to a Commandant in charge of operations at the VAD Hospital. Their connections to art bring to life this front line view of war.

Autumn Floral Wreath Workshop

  • 15 September 2014 10am-2pm

Enjoy a morning ramble through the gardens of Newark Park, collecting colourful berries and autumn foliage. return to the house to create an autumn arrangement under the tuition of an expert. The flower arranging instruction will take place at workstations in the ground floor of the mansion with views to the gardens. A warm atmosphere, stunning location and tea and cake are all provided. Please bring a packed lunch.

A Cotswold Autumn Ramble

A free five mile guided circular walk in an easterly direction towards the Bagpath valley over the beautiful hills, taking in the Autumnal Cotswold scenery. The walk finishes back at Newark Park reception car park.

Newark's Special Trees Guided Autumn Walk

Have you ever seen a beautiful leaf in autumn and not known what it is or smelt toffee when wandering under a branch? The gardens at Newark Park have hidden secrets when it comes to trees. On this walk you'll discover the tree of heaven, the foxglove tree, the weeping silver lime and many more like the sweet smelling katsura. Our tree expert will talk to you about their uses, folklore and history. There will be three walks running at 12:00, 14:00 and 15:30.

A Sunday Walk Across the Hills

Discover far reaching views across the hills and valleys before dipping down towards the village of Wotton Under Edge. This is a circular, five mile walk which will end up back in the Visitor Reception Car Park at Newark Park. Suitable for children used to walking larger distances.

Cath Hodsman: Bees Under the Microscope

Cath Hodsman will be running this special drawing workshop celebrating bees. Study the bees under your microscope and then have a go at drawing them under Cath's expert tuition. Cath Hodsman is a skilled and widely acknowledged British wildlife artist who champions the smaller creatures of the natural world. She is one of the most technically accomplished and accurate Natural-History artists, specialising in entomology. She is a registered tutor with Bristol Drawing School, based in the Royal West of England Academy.
