Victoria Baths is the most intact Edwardian Baths in Britain. It is an architectural gem, rich in stained glass, mosaic floors and decorative tiling. Restoration Phase 1 has been completed with an extensive programme of external and structural work to the Turkish baths and the front block of the building, thanks to the success on BBC's Restoration series. Restoration Phase 1+ has just being completed with the North facing Main window in the Gala Pool above the foundation stone being restored.
Guided tours and children's trail, cafe and special events are available throughout 2013 season.

Opening hours

Open Days are on the first Sunday of each month from April to November, 12:00 until 16:00 hours.
Heritage Open days are Fri 13th September, Sat 14th September and Sun 15th September, 11:00 until 17:00 hours.
From April to October there is a guided tour of the building every Wed. Doors open at 13:40, tour starts promptly at 14:00 hours.

Heritage Open Days 2014: Victoria Baths Guided Tours - Getting to Know VB

  • 13 — 14 September 2014

Our popular guided tour 'Getting to Know Victoria Baths' will be led by an experienced guide, showing you the amazing architecture of Victoria Baths and telling you about its history. You will hear how the Baths was used, including the memories of its bathers, and find out about the BBC Restoration win in 2003 and how the money was spent. We'll also tell you the plans for the future and how you can get involved!

Heritage Open Days 2014: Victoria Baths Guided Tours - Behind the Scenes

  • 13 — 14 September 2014

This tour is 'Behind the Scenes' and takes you to lesser known parts of Victoria Baths as well as the iconic spaces in the main building. You will visit the boiler house and filter room and hear about pool water treatment through the ages. The tour visits the undercroft of the pools and several spaces that have been used as TV locations, including filming for Life on Mars and Mrs Biggs. You will learn about plans for the future restoration of the Baths and how you can become involved.

Heritage Open Days 2014: Victoria Baths

A great opportunity to explore Victoria Baths: Britain's finest historic municipal swimming pool, which also has a Turkish baths suite. It is rich in early 20th century architectural splendour - masses of stained glass windows, mosaic floors, decorative tiles and terracotta. For Heritage Open Days we are hosting a Contemporary Glass Fair with exhibits and stalls from the region's leading glass artists. Guided tours are on offer throughout the weekend. The Gallery Choir is performing on Saturday, 1300-1500.

Access to museum reserve industrial collections and the Science Education Centre (used in term time by schools studying physical sciences). Children have enormous fun playing with our science interactives, whilst learning scientific principles at the same time. Enjoy the force of the water from the weir and the peace of the millpond. Ardwick Heritage Trail

Take a trip back in time and bring Manchester history to life on the Ardwick Heritage Trail. Long trail approx 1 hour 30 minutes, short trail 1 hour. Guided walks available in February 2009. Self guided walks using the printed version or podcast.

Scrub a dub dub

A school's hands on activity. They will use washday equipment to experience different ways of washing in Victorian times. This will show the impact on people's lives of wash houses and public baths.

THE ONLINE VERSION IS ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE EVERYWHERE - just go to www.waterpalace.org.uk and have a go. The questions are cross referenced to the adult literacy and numeracy core curricula ( Levels E2 to Level 2) You will also have some downloadable numeracy activity sheets and ideas on activities for your visit.
