See the spectacular Victorian Gothic house and chapel scaffolding free after extensive repairs and restoration works. Inside discover a family home lived in by four generations of the Gibbs family, all making their mark and never throwing anything away. Follow the family’s rise and decline, and find out why the National Trust saved Tyntesfield in 2002 and how they are bringing it back to life.

Be inspired by a garden full of character and variety. Explore the formal garden with its sweeping lawns and flower filled terraces. Discover the romantic Rose Garden with its maze-like beds and enchanting gazeboes. Or, pick up ideas for growing-your-own and take home mouth-watering produce in the Kitchen Garden.

Expand your horizons and get out and about on Tyntesfield’s historic estate. Walk into wild woodland landscapes and let the views take your breath away. Go exploring and seek out the estate buildings, from stables to summerhouses our places are full of history and intrigue.

Spend time exploring the brand new visitor centre, Home Farm. The original Grade II* Victorian model farm buildings have been converted into a restaurant and café full of tasty seasonal food and a shop selling local gifts and crafts. From April enjoy the farm themed play area, second-hand book shop, garden shop and Focus on the Wild, the interactive wildlife discovery hub. Open seven days a week it’s free to enjoy all year round.

Boundary Walk With Our Estate Interpreters 2014

Discover rarely told tales and tread un-trodden paths across fields and up through wooded glens. The walk will take in glorious vistas, a beautiful country pub and sheds light on some forgotten gems of the Tyntesfield story. £15 per person (includes a hot snack and drink in the Battleaxes Inn).

Bird

Early Morning Bird Song Walk

  • 3 May 2014 5:30-7am

Ed Drewitt, bird specialist and wildlife detective, will guide you around Tyntesfield at dawn and tune your ears to all the different bird songs around the Tyntesfield estate. Finish the morning with a hot drink and a delicious bacon or mushroom buttie. We will be listening for many of Tyntesfield's local birds such as Blackbirds, Song Thrushes, and Robins, as well as those that have just arrived from further south to spend the summer here, including Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps and Swallows.

50 Things Activity - Climb a Tree

Join the Great Big Tree Climbing team for a high and mighty time in the trees. They will teach you how to enter a tree's canopy using ropes, knots and karabiners, whilst being securely attached in a harness at all times. Those feeling brave enough can then take the zip wire back down. Great fun for all ages.

Tyntesfield 10

Enjoy the steep ascents and spectacular views! The run is open to everyone, but with a 500 runner limit. Race entry £10 (£8 for ARC affiliated members). If not full, all entries on the day £12 (£10 for ARC affiliated members). Booking recommended through the NRC website www.nailsearunningclub.org.uk Our Cow Barn restaurant will be open for the evening serving up a special spectator and runner menu!
