At Museums Sheffield: Weston Park you can explore the world and its past, from millions of years ago to the present day.

Children and adults will love the animated new displays, specially designed to delight even our littlest explorers. From Egyptian Mummies, to a traditional butchers shop. From Snowy the polar bear, to living ants and bees. The city's amazing collections of beautiful, varied and unusual treasures will be brought to life by fascinating histories, incredible facts and hands-on interactives.

Fun-filled, creative activities are available daily for families and school groups. An attractive new café serves fresh and tasty refreshments. All this, combined with regularly changing exhibitions and displays, means there are plenty of reasons to return time after time.

The Seven Treasures: Japanese Enamels from the V&A

26 January — 2 June 2013 *on now

Enamelling is a painstaking and time-consuming craft, a fact often obscured by the polished brilliance of the finished objects. Between 1880 and 1910, the Japanese enamelling industry reached a level of exquisite sophistication that would later come to be regarded as a Golden Age. This exhibition showcases some of the most beautiful Japanese enamels in the V&A's extensive collection, alongside enamels produced in Sheffield, showing different but not unrelated traditions and techniques.

Open Mon–Fri 10am– 4pm, Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 11am–4pm.

  • Family friendly

Colour Coded

22 June 2013 — 26 January 2014

Our 21st century lives are filled with colours of an almost infinite variety. Yet creating such a rich palette hasn’t always been so easy. What we now take for granted is the legacy of an enduring human obsession with harnessing natural colour for our own purposes.
This brand new exhibition, created by Museums Sheffield, and drawing on the city’s collections, celebrates the history, science and significance of colour throughout the ages. From the first synthetic dye that set the Victorian fashion world ablaze, to the colourful art of Patrick Caulfield, Colour Coded will celebrate the emotional power which colour continues to hold over us.
