Built in 1699, Castle Howard is one of the country's finest historic houses and is still the private residence of the Howard family.

FREE admission to the Stable Courtyard and Garden Centre.

Indoors, art treasures include paintings by Canaletto, Holbein, Gainsborough and Reynolds, a collection of antique sculpture, and the porcelain collections include a spectacular Crown Derby botanical dessert service. Outdoors there are temples, lead statues and an array of monuments.

Heroines & Harridans

Castle Howard may have been built and furnished by husbands, fathers and sons but the women of the house played an equally significant role in shaping the future of the grand stately home.

Discover the stories of these remarkable women, including Roasalind the 9th Countess who, whilst her husband pursued his passion for art, managed all the family estates. She also raised her 5 daughters and 6 sons and led an active political life, campaigning for votes for women, no wonder she was known as ‘The Radical Countess’.

Tea and coffee will be served on arrival, with wine & canapés at the end of the evening.

Price: £30 | Discount applies for Annual Pass holders
Evening starts at 6pm with tea and coffee in the Grecian Hall. Talk begins 6:30pm evening ends (approx) 8:45pm.

On arrival drive down to the front of the House to park. Enter via the House Entrance.

Premium Monumental Tour

This all day events begins with a walking tour with our curatorial team, which takes in the Avenue, Gatehouse, Mock Fortifications, Pyramid, Mausoleum and Temple of the Four Winds including exclusive access to some of the buildings.

After the morning's walk, relax and warm up over a delicious two-course lunch by the roaring fire in the Grecian Hall.

In the afternoon access some of our private archive collection, including old estate maps, retracing the routes you've explored in the morning.

Admission

Price: £65 | Discount applies for Annual Pass holders
The tour involves walking across uneven terrain so sensible footwear is require, the walk lasts approximately 3 hours.

Meet your tour guide at 10am. On arrival, park in the Visitor car park and go to the Ticket Office to register.

Day finishes at approximately 3pm.
