It all started with three young artists, living and growing up in the 'burbs of Hillingdon. They had an abundance of creativity combined with natural drive and but no avenue to exhibit within the community or a space to enjoy the contemporary artwork of fellow local artists. It became their plan to open a contemporary artspace in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Caroline Newell, Andrew Wheatcroft and Errol Fernandes formed Contemporaryartwest, a voluntary organisation, in September 2002.
In order to get funding for our proposed gallery space we aim to run some pilot projects in collaboration with existing spaces within the community. These activities do not only benefit the local community but also serve as pilot projects, to assist in our bid to open a contemporary art space/gallery in Uxbridge. Through the success of these projects we hope
to make a strong proposal that demonstrates the need of a gallery and studio space in the Hillingdon area.
Our ultimate aim is to establish a truly first rate art gallery and studio space in Uxbridge that will make contemporary art available to the local community. We have a vision of an art space that will act as a resource centre and a focal point for people interested in visual art.
