Discover is an amazing place for children and families from 0 - 11 years old to play and create stories. Focused on storytelling, children can let their imaginations run wild in the indoor Story Trail or venture outside into the Story Garden. Follow the Story Trail from the Lollipopter through to the Sparkly River, over the Trip Trap Bridge and through the caves. Dress up, make puppets and hold your own show and create your own stories with the help of the story-builders.

Interactive exhibits encouraging children to develop their imagination and literacy skills whilst having fun! Exhibits include: The Magic Tower(where children can listen to stories in different languages and go down a slide), the Lollipopter (which could be a boat, plane, helicopter, submarine or spaceship), the Secret Cave, and Polka-Dot Sounds (sound beams and lights are used to create and magical mixture of sound and movement).

Celebrate the 10th birthday of the classic 'How to Catch a Star' ​by exploring Oliver Jeffers' magical worlds in an exhibition bringing his fabulous picture books to life. Play in your favourite scenes from 'How to Catch a Star', 'Up and Down', 'Lost and Found' and 'The Way Back Home'. Take a trip to the seaside, row a boat, make friends with a penguin and an alien, visit the Lost and Found office and watch as stars magically appear.

Step inside a humongous chocolate cake and explore a secret larder, swishy swashy and splash splosh your way through a Bear Hunt. And dare you explore the Bad Things in the Dread Shed? Discover hidden rooms and brilliant clues that show what inspired Michael Rosen’s writing including his Grandparents’ sitting room and his classroom. Younger children can enjoy a Bear Hunt trail, whilst older children can go on a fun fact finding mission on Michael Rosen and create poems of their own to take away.

Join our story Builder for 20 minutes of exciting games outside in our garden (weather permitting). Play Follow My Leader, What’s the Time Mr Wolf, Simon Says and many more fun activities to get you moving around the garden. Whilst you’re out there, sail the seas on the pirate ship, whoosh up to space on the spaceship and find your way through the wiggly winding paths.

Summer Holidays at Discover: Hot Hot Hot!

The summer holidays will be Hot Hot Hot! at Discover when we are open every day.

Join us for stories, crafts and special activities on the Story Trail and in the Story Garden based on a different theme each week of the Newham school holidays.

Themes include: Holiday Adventures (Fri 24 Jul - Sun 2 Aug), Splash! (Mon 3 - Sun 9 Aug), Let's Go Camping (Mon 10 - Sun 16 Aug), Summer Picnic (Mon 17 - Sun 23 Aug), Fruit Salad (Mon 24 - Sun 30 Aug) and Kites! (Mon 31 Aug - Sun 6 Sept).

Our Story Builders will also run Garden Games every day in the Story Garden for ages 3 - 6 (weather permitting) and babies and toddlers can enjoy Splish, Splash, Splosh!, a sensory story session inspired by a water theme, designed especially for them.

Dinosaurs Weekend

Join our archaeologists and see what you can DISCOVER in the sand pit of bones (ages 0-3) or make your own skeleton dinosaur fossil toad to add to our museum gallery. Dress up bring along your dinosaur friends and have a T-Rexmendous dinosaur day.
