Fort Brockhurst is one of five forts known as the Gosport Advanced Lines, built to defend Portsmouth Harbour from a flanking attack by the French.

Get Switched on to Lighting Discovery Visit

Discover how our ancestors learnt to create their own light. Handle a variety of intriguing objects relating to artificial light from the Romans to the present day, learn how they work and share your discoveries.
The Alphabet Trail is a free half hour optional extra to all Discovery Visits available at Fort Brockhurst. It takes place around the grounds of the fort where there is plenty of outdoor space. Why not bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it!
