Laurie Lee: Poetry, Art and Landscape

Thie exhibition shows a collection of previously unseen drawings and paintings by celebrated poet and writer Laurie Lee. It also includes new work by artists inspired
by a series of walks through Laurie Lee's beloved landscapes of Slad, the Stroud Valleys and beyond.

'The Curator of Eccentricities'

Stroud in the First World War: Technology and Innovation

Stroud in the First World War: The World At War

Telling the story of volunteers and those conscripted from the Stroud District and their involvement in the First World War across all of the major theatres. During this year's programme we will look at local VC winners Captain Bennett and Captain Butler as well as other men represented in our collections.

Poetry Readings with Poet, Adam Horovitz

Like Laurie Lee, Adam Horovitz grew up in the Slad Valley and his writing is profoundly influenced by the landscape of this unique place. He will read a selection of his own poems as well as poems by Laurie Lee.

Creative Writing Workshop for Adults with Adam Horovitz

A workshop which will encourage you to write about your local landscape and everything that populates it, using the work of Laurie Lee and other local writers as inspiration, along with objects and the exhibition at the Museum. Using 'Cider with Rosie' and Laurie Lee's poetry as a starting point.

'Cider with Laurie'

The story of Laurie Lee's life told through tis own writings, compiled and edited by local Whitbread prize winning author Jamila Gavin. Readings, live music and a little lubrication, in a cosy cafe-style atmosphere.
