The collection gives a good insight into the social history and local characters of this charming and ancient market town, from prehistoric times to modern day. There is a working wool weaving loom, a fine collection of Coggeshall lace and some of the earliest post-Roman bricks in Britain. There is also a large photographic display and video footage of the town's past. Some new exhibits are set annually so there is always something different to see.
