Located in an original blacksmith’s forge that was still operating until the late 1970s, Eccleston Parish Council have transformed the Smithy into a museum dedicated to the history of the area.
Learn about the skills of local craftsmen including the farmer, the wheelwright, the farrier and the blacksmith, all of whom played a vital role in Eccleston’s rural past.
Temporary exhibitions cover a wide range of subjects, and the Smithy participates in many annual events including the Festival for British Archaeology and International Blacksmiths Day, with activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Blacksmithing and wheelwrighting tools form a major part of the collection, reflecting the former use of the museum site. A range of agricultural artefacts illustrate the area's farming history. There are also displays and collections of domestic artefacts.
