The Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust, in partnership with Forest Entreprise (Forestry Commission) has, since the early 1980's, been commissioning artists to create temporary and permanent works in the Forest of Dean, helping to reawaken interest in the area and interret its landscape.

"This may be best stated by an awakening of all the senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell in a woodland setting and by recognition of the primeval provision which forests have made to man down the centuries of mystery, religion, poetry, shelter, fuel, food and drink."

The Trust ses the Forest of Dean, its trees, wildlife, industrial past and rich heritage, as a special environment that creates a unique opportunity for encountering the work of artists. The Trust promotes projects involving artists working in a range of media.

The Sculpture Trail is conceived to encourage visitors and residents to visit the trail, to investigate, discover and be inspired by the magic and mystery of the forest.
